South Carolina BarNEWS www.scbar.org Convention ceremony to recognize selected deceased lawyers The Bar’s Memory Hold the Door Committee will recognize distinguished, deceased members of the bench and bar at a ceremony during the 2010 Bar Convention at Kiawah Island Golf Resort. In 1958, the South Carolina Bar and the University of South Carolina School of Law faculty established the memorial repository and endowment fund, Memory Hold the Door. The endowments promote the welfare of the legal profession by funding student scholarships, lectures, research and academic programs. The lawyers remembered in Memory Hold the Door represent a true honor roll of the legal profession, selected by their peers as best exemplifying the qualities of integrity, profes- sionalism and skill required of the bench and bar. The 2009 honorees are James W. Alford, David A. Brown, Harry S. Dent, Henry Hammer, Harriet McBryde Johnson, Oren O. Jones, T. English McCutchen III, Robert E. McNair and Hon. Donald S. Russell. The induction ceremony will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, January 21, in the East Beach Conference Center. The cere- mony is open to all Convention attendees, spouses and guests. Attendees are invited to the President’s Welcome Reception on the Sanctuary lawn following the ceremony. December 2009 Vol. 21, No. 2 The Bar thanks the S.C.
