Foundation , continued from previous page. 28% The obligation of a lawyer to support the Bar’s charitable arm 18% Other ( see a few of the responses below ) • “All of the above!” • “Because it is our profession and we need to provide this service for the promulgation of the profession.” • “We need to help those who cannot help themselves.” • “We owe it to the profession; it is what separates us from others.” Now what? Survey results have been studied, and a plan is being formulated to help guide the Foundation in the future. Lawyers will see a greater emphasis on consistent (and more frequent) communica-tion from the Foundation in many forms, ranging from print pieces to more effective use of e-mail, social media and the website. Efforts to reach segments of the Bar to encourage support through giving will take place. For example, Bar President Angus Macaulay is reaching out to the Bar’s House of Delegates to encourage 100 per-cent participation by January 2013. The Foundation will also study ways to more actively engage young lawyers. Communication materials will place an even greater emphasis on the impact of Foundation grantees, including sharing the stories of those who are served through Foundation resources. The Foundation appreciates the responses of our supporters as we continue to build on our long history as the only statewide entity that funds the advancement of justice by improving access, education and accountability. We are excited about the next steps. If you have any ideas, please contact the Foundation’s Executive Director, Shannon Willis Scruggs, at (803) 765-0517.
