MACAULAY WAS SWORN IN AS THE 2012-13 PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAR DURING THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES MEETING ON MAY 3. Macaulay is a member of Nexsen Pruet, LLC, practicing in the area of employment law and business litigation. In his address to the House of Delegates, he outlined priorities for his term, highlighting service to lawyers and South Carolinians as major purposes of the Bar. Macaulay said, “The practice of law is a profession, and in this profession of law, more is expected of us … we have obligations to each other as lawyers, and we have obligations to the people of this great state where we have chosen to make our home.” To highlight service to lawyers, the Bar has launched We DO That!, a campaign to increase awareness of the many benefits and programs available to Bar members. Columbia Attorney Angus Macaulay To Lead South Carolina Bar
COLUMBIA ATTORNEY ANGUS H. MACAULAY WAS SWORN IN AS THE 2012-13 PRESIDENT OF THE SOUTH CAROLINA BAR DURING THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES MEETING ON MAY 3.<br /> <br /> Macaulay is a member of Nexsen Pruet, LLC, practicing in the area of employment law and business litigation. In his address to the House of Delegates, he outlined priorities for his term, highlighting service to lawyers and South Carolinians as major purposes of the Bar.<br /> <br /> Macaulay said, “The practice of law is a profession, and in this profession of law, more is expected of us … we have obligations to each other as lawyers, and we have obligations to the people of this great state where we have chosen to make our home.” <br /> <br /> To highlight service to lawyers, the Bar has launched We DO That!, a campaign to increase awareness of the many benefits and programs available to Bar members. Throughout the year, various services will be spotlighted in Bar communications. Bar leaders will continue to visit county bars to gauge important issues for Bar members, efforts of both the Member Involvement Task Force and the Lawyer Image Task Force will continue, and a new Congressional Outreach Task Force will work to strengthen ties with South Carolina’s congressional delegation. The Bar will also create a “Mobile Member” application for smart phones to allow for easy access to important Bar resources.<br /> <br /> For the public, the Bar will produce manuals outlining guardianship/conservatorship for special needs children and the process for expungement of criminal records, expand the current pro bono program to better aid those in need, and hold a Law School for Journalists program to educate the media on the basics of the legal profession.<br /> <br /> Macaulay has served the Bar in a number of previous positions, including president of the Young Lawyers Division (1999-2000), member of the Board of Governors (2000-2002; 2007 to present), and member of the House of Delegates (2000 to present). He is former chair of the Task Force on Judicial Elections, Long Range Planning Committee and Lawyer Image Task Force.<br /> <br /> Macaulay is a certified mediator and has also been certified as a specialist in the area of labor and employment law by the S.C. Supreme Court. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the Federation of Defense and Corporate Counsel. The USC School of Law Alumni Association recognized his contributions to the legal profession in 2003 with the Compleat Lawyer Silver Award.
